Are you curious if teeth whitening is right for your smile? Do your teeth look stained or discolored? Teeth can become stained when particles build up on the enamel. Staining particles come from food and drink such as coffee, wine, tea, cola drinks and tobacco. Pinnacle Dental Associates offers a safe and effective, in-office teeth whitening process. Here is some additional information to see if it’s right for you.
Don’t be embarrassed about asking if teeth whitening is right for you. Most people who consider whitening their teeth are looking to lighten their teeth giving them a brighter smile. When someone feels good about their smile they tend to be more self confident.
Whitening toothpastes are not always the best option if you’re looking for a safe whitening method. Those products tend to be abrasive and can cause damage to enamel if used too frequently. That’s why it’s important to consult with your dentist to see about safe methods to whiten teeth, especially if you have sensitivity.
It is important to note that any sort of dental work such as crowns, veneers or fillings will not be altered through the whitening process.
Our in-office whitening is done using the KOR Whitening System. We also offer the take home KOR gel to be used in custom-made trays for home use. As an option to the custom made trays we also offer the Opalescence GO system which comes with moldable wax trays, and the whitening gel is already incorporated into each tray making it easier to use.
Patients should expect a two hour appointment for their in-office whitening application. During this appointment, we will take impressions for the custom-made whitening trays if that is the system you choose to use following the in-office application. The Opalescence GO does not require impressions to be taken.
After determining the current shade of the teeth and applying a protective barrier along the gumline, we then apply three 20 minute applications of the whitening gel. At the conclusion of the appointment we compare the shade of the tooth (before and after) and apply a fluoride varnish to help protect the teeth from any sensitivity. The patient should be aware that sensitivity can be a side effect of whitening but normally will subside after a day or two.
Most patients are happy with their end results and rarely feel the need for a repeat in-office application. They will however continue to use at home whitening products occasionally as needed to keep up with the results.
We love helping patients feel confident with bright, white smiles to share with family and friends. We can provide a consultation at a regularly scheduled appointment to see if teeth whitening is right for you. Schedule an appointment today!
